I took this ring to a local jeweler and he told me that the center stone is a natural emerald and the smaller outer stones are diamonds. he also acid tested the ring and said it was low 22k gold. he also said that it is at least 100 years old but would not put an exact opinion with out me paying for an appraisal. he offered $500 for the ring. I thought at this point I should do more research so I posted it on here. Also this ring was sold to me as costume jewelry for much less than I was offered for it. It does have some very small strange marks on the outside of the band that I can not make out. Thanks

19th century reproduction? by: Anonymous
22 carat gold is high carat but soft. I doubt the ring would be in this great shape if it is solid 22 carat gold and 19th century. Wondering if this ring is a 19th century reproduction? Have you managed to identify the stone Don? Rayanne

19th century Romantic Period - Ring by: Yvonne
Hi Don
Are you certain it's 22 kt solid gold?
Concerning the design, the massively wrought gold, the divided decorative shoulders set with mixed gems echo the "antique" Medieval and Renaissance styles adopted during the Romantic period in the 19th century. I'm leaning towards the late 19th century. The market in stones expanded vastly in the course of the century, for new sources brought gem-set rings to a much wider public towards the later part of the 19th century.
