real or plastic cameo?

I received this silver necklace, which is supposed to be a cameo, from my husband for a Christmas present. It is a black (flat) stone possibly onyx. The girl's face is white and thick. Looks as if glued on the black stone. The black stone is flat, the girl's face thick and flat. The face is also very shinny. It does not fade into anything. Just starts and stops. I have another cameo and this one looks so different from the other one. Is this a good cameo or a fake? The silver around it is beautiful. My husband paid a lot of money for this necklace and I would like to be sure it was worth it.
