The weight of your gold ring
by: Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre

Gina, I think you must be a bit muddled regarding the weight of this ring. The gold buyer that I know breaks down their prices in all systems of measurement. These include grams, pennyweight, troy ounce, and avoirdupois ounce. They also break the payout pricing down into what carat the gold is.

Ounce of gold grams (Avoirdupois Ounce or Common Ounce)
Again the common ounce is different than the troy ounce. It’s conversion factor is:

1 ounce (oz) = 28.349 grams (g)

I believe, the majority of gold rings, that people scrap are around 3 grams in weight.

There is a link in the Jewelry Resources where you can work out the price for scrap gold.

Best Wishes,

Yvonne

When You Have to Sell Your Antique Jewelry
by: Sue

Gina i understand exactly where you are coming from. I had an amazing antique diamond ring, that was give to me by my great grandmother. It broke my heart to sell it but I knew she would have wanted me too. Rather pay the rent than be homeless with a ring on my finger.

As I understand Gina it's hallmarked 1908 and although it's an antique wedding ring, don't expect to make a fortune. Do you know the weight of it? It's 18 carat yellow gold - right? Sue

antique ring offers
by: Anonymous

After talking with my mother about this ring, she told me...to sell it. The money I could get for the ring could set my life free and open endless possibilities for college, hope, and meaning in this life, which is what my great grandmother sought for our family, I just want to know how much to expect from this.

Not sounding greedy, but my family has always been about do what you can do to make ends meet, I hate to part with this ring that has been on my finger for over 12 years, but if it means starting over and clearing all my debt?? What should I take as an offer?

Antique Gold Wedding Band
by: Anonymous

Gina isn't this what we love about antique jewelry heirlooms. Priceless!

you know it's a tradition of the British Royal family; wedding rings crafted from gold not only from the same gold mine in Wales, but also from the very same gold nugget!

1908 Antique Gold Wedding Ring
by: Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre

Gina I think you mean Shreve & Co - Shreve's pieces were handsomely finished, often featuring hand hammering and cut-out designs. Yes, you have the antique store of value to consider. You didn't mention if it was a a men's or a ladies antique gold wedding band? Is it a plain wedding band?

It could be especially meaningful, for a male in this case - in 1908 Australia regained the Ashes with a 308 run cricket victory vs England

For a Maurice Ravel fan -
Mar 15th 1908 marked the 1st performance of Maurice Ravel's "Rapsodie Espagnole"

and because it is an Antique Wedding Ring the following should be a very note worthy year -

in May 12th 1908 George Bernard Shaws' "Getting Married," premieres in London

Best Wishes

Yvonne
