Makes sense. I have the same G enclosed in a diamond shape (cartouche?) on Lavalier style pendant with seed pearls and a amethyst. My understanding is that style pendant was made circa 1890-1910.

The G in the diamond shape is the maker's mark, it isn't the date letter. It looks to me like it might be the maker:
J.A. & S.W. GRANBERY manufacturing Jewelers, including Cameos - and some Sterling Silver, Newark, NJ, USA ca 1900 - 1931
