Egyptian Gold Marks
by: Anonymous

Hi thanks for writing in - this is a good example of a badly executed repair I'm afraid- the join goes right through the center of the gold hallmarks.

It wasn't until 1946, that the Assay and Weights Administration in EGYPT established:
1. Egyptian standard mark for Gold: Seagull
2. Egyptian standard mark for Silver: Lotus Flower
3. Egyptian standard mark for Platinum: King Mina's crown.

First you have to examine the mark with your Jewelers Loupe and see if you can identify a SEAGULL which is still the Egyptian symbol for gold today, although it will be difficult to identify with this mark because of the rather bad jewelry repair.

There is more information on Egyptian Gold Marks Here.

best wishes,
