Identifying Lion Hallmark on Gold Watch

by Norman George

I have just acquired a late 18th century solid gold pocket watch whose sole identifying markings are that of a lion passant in lozenge, both on the inside of the back cover and inside the bezel.

Although I have yet to test it, it most likely will be 20-22k, pair case with seed pearls around front and back with enamel back cover. A very expensive piece for its time, circa 1790 I believe, but I cannot find this hallmark for gold anywhere. Can you help?
