Thank You

Yvonne,

I very much appreciate your response. After learning from you that the name is "Rebecca By the Well", I was able to research further and am so happy to have additional information, such as the date: probably 1920's and the value (though it's priceless to me).

I have other cameos, all different and all, by coincidence, left facing profiles. I will be trying to learn more about them as well.

Thank you so much for your help with this special one.

Rebecca By the Well Cameo
by: Yvonne

Hi Jacqueline

"trees" have for centuries endured as profound symbols of reverence with important metaphysical connotations, to name a few: ie. Buddha achieved enlightenment sitting under a tree, The tree of knowledge of good and evil, cornerstone of christianity, the kabbalah tree of journey and growth, the English oak tree which is the quintessential native tree which defines the British landscape is reportedly under threat in todays independent news (31st May 2012).

In this respect, it's quite surprising there are relatively fewer cameo with depictions of trees.

Shell cameo which do have an orange tinge as you describe were popular in the Victorian era. During this era there were many variations of the popular Victorian cameo "Rebecca by the Well" theme. "Rebecca by the Well" is today used as a general term to describe scenes on cameo with subject of a woman, house and tree.

With Best Wishes
Yvonne
