Large Clear Rhinestone With Star Cut in Stone

I have a clear rhinestone brooch from my aunt. I think it from the 1920's or 1930's. The center rhinestone has a very distinct and lovely start shape cut into it. I have never seen another like it.

What can you tell me about these lovely stones?
I have close to 100 pcs. of costume jewelry my aunt left me and this is the only one with the star. Most of the pieces are 1930's - 1950's I think.
