long string of pearls - 1920s
by: Anonymous

Just thinking out loud....

there are thirty six inches in a yard, so this long string of pearls would roughly be just under 3 yards in length. A long string by today's standards! However, if one was to travel back in time to the 1920s long strings were not uncommon.

Day wear was now practical, night wear was fluid, waistlines of dresses were dropped to the hips and the backs were often cut low. The style was elegant, classy and sporty. Coco Chanel was the symbol of the 1920s. Pearls during this period were worn in long strings, by the yards...

No Trimmings here....

Thanks for your comments and questions, but these are not "trimmings" or decorations...they are the real deal.

I have attached a couple of photos, although because of the length they are nearly impossible to photograph without wrapping them several times. The length is 106" long. GORGEOUS Pearls.

I got them from a woman who just passed who was 86, and they the pearls were her mothers...that's the best I can do with dating them.

Tall Pearl Stories

what an intriguing pearl story! I believe you purchase pearl trimming by the meter...used mainly theatrical purposes, you can also buy indoor pearl Christmas decorations, that look just like a pearl earring. Imitations pearls naturally!
