Researching British Hallmarks
by: Anonymous

Hi thanks for writing in. These are British Hallmarks.

The first three letters will be the maker's mark, the anchor is the symbol for the Birmingham assay office, 9.375 is the caratage. What is Caratage? Find out Here!

The inclusion of a decimal point before the millesimal value tells you the item is dated AFTER 1854.

The "n" letter you see will be the date letter. You can research the date letter and compare this mark and the shield it's in with the Birmingham date letter chart in Researching British Hallmarks Here.

Happy Hunting!
