rose gold antique wedding ring

My daughter was recently married with an antique rose gold ring that had belonged to her grandmother. The ring had been sized down at the time the grandfather gave it to the grandmother for their 50th anniversary and was a little snug so it was taken to a jeweler to be enlarged 1/2 size.
After enlarging the ring, it initially looked very shiny, but soon began to look burnished and a bit yellower though dull at one area. It was assumed to be the area where the ring originally had metal removed to size down, but when taken to the jeweler who did the up sizing for my daughter's wedding they now say the ring is not gold, but copper.
The ring is marked 14K on inside and was worn for 10 years by the grandmother and now for 3 months by my daughter and no one ever turned green. Is it possible that it really is copper or can you explain?
