I have a engagement ring which has been in the family for a long time but do not know year of make. If i can get an idea of how old the ring is, i can possibly relate it to a family member.

The ring is 18ct and plat 3 x diamonds cross over ring.

Expert Opinion Plus Photos

How intriguing. Martina, It could have been foreign made for a british manufacturer which would explain why there are no registry office or date letter marks. The patent number on a piece of jewelry refers to an invention of some sort.

The cut of the diamonds will be telling. A photo of the ring in its entirety and the marks will be necessary. For further assistance please submit the expert opinion form.

Rebecca

The markings are very plain, and only as I said before "s.h&co 18ct plat x8424", with no other hallmarks or shapes. The initials aren't in any shapes or anything, except that the 'o' in co is underlined.

There are 3 little diamonds set in the ring.
And it has been in my family for a few generations, it was passed on to me from my Aunt, who got it from her Aunt before that.. it has been in my family for at least 50 years, it may be a ring from my Mother's cousin's unrequited engagement, as she ran away so not to marry a man she didn't love. I expect it may be european? From WWII. But that's just a guess.

Thanks very much. Martina

More Information Please
by: Anonymous

We have a ring with the SH & Co initials. As we can't see the marks, can you please describe the initials in more detail and provide more in the way of background information. Is the ring set with stones? Do you have any idea about the age of the ring? Are the letters within a type of imprint, a lozenge, a circle or square, etc? This information will help. There are a number of registered silver and goldsmiths with the same initials.

Best Wishes
Yvonne
