Silver Pendant with Teardrop Sapphires Set in Filigree Cones
by: Carol

* Please can you advise how/where to attach the requested additional closeup pics of the necklace clasp and cones?

* Also, there are no obvious hallmarks on the piece.

* At this stage I haven't had the stones checked for their authenticity.

Regards
Carol

Russian Sapphires
by: Anonymous

....would I love to see your sapphires up close and personal:-) Wonderful if you could determine the origin of your necklace Carol. Are there any marks on the silver anywhere?

Sapphires have been found in Russia following the 1825 discovery of alluvial gold in the Kamenlza and Sanarlza River basins of the Ural Mountains. In fact, numerous gem materials were found in the course of gold prospecting in that region of Russia. These gems include beryl, chrysoberyl, corundum, (RUBY & SAPPHIRE) diamond, euclase, topaz, and tourmaline.

Steps in Determining if a Necklace is of Russian Origin or Not
by: Anonymous

Good Morning Carol

antique Russian Necklaces are a rare find.

We are unable to see the clasp on this necklace and they often provide important dating and origin clues,
the cut of the sapphires, the settings of the stones, the workmanship involved in the filigree cones - all of these elements need investigation and this can
be achieved by providing close-up photos of the cones and stones, the necklace in its entirety ( that are in focus please).

Two starting questions:
Have you tested the Silver - is it Continental Silver?
Have you tested the Sapphires? Warning - Never use the scratch test on set gemstones. You can instantly eliminate glass or a synthetic gem with a simple spectroscope.

Kind Regards
Yvonne
