Many gemmos will charge as little as $15 for a stone test. If the stone then warrants an appraisal, this charge is usually deducted from the appraisal charge.

Classic Triple Strand of Pearls

Thanks so much for contacting! Jackie Kennedy, America's first lady and 20th century fashion icon, who wanted to inject a little "regal" status into her image, succeeded with a triple row of pearls. Jackie wore the classic triple strand of pearls on many state visits, most famously, on an official trip to India in 1962. If you do a little googleing, you might find the iconic photograph of Jackie in Udaipur, India. She was wearing a fitted, bow-fronted apricot dress. The photograph was published in Life magazine. Three rows of pearls were at the height of fashion in the mid 20th century, so your dates are spot-on.

The pearls could be cultured pearls, and the red stones on clasp could very possibly be rubies - if they are rubies, it idicates pearls of high quality. Do you still have the box? This would provide invaluable info and also add to their value.

Can you take the pearls to a jeweler in your area who handles pearls on a regular basis? A jeweler should also be able to examine the stones on the clasp, for identification. He might even be able to tell you if the pearls are cultured pearls or faux pearls, and if they are worth getting appraised.
