West Germany Necklace

I have a necklace that I received after my grandmother passed away. The necklace looks like a single line of chain mail and feels very solid. There is a tag at the end (where the hook is - it's not a clasp)that says in very tiny lettering, West Germany. Is this necklace worth anything more than sentimental value? I do not intend to sell it, but I was curious!
