If it is a ruby, you ought to get an appraisal and insure it. Nice large rubies are worth thousands.

Terry, jeweler should run tests to determine if Ruby is Natural or Synthetic. If Ruby Ring is set with 10 carat Natural ruby, then Ruby Ring, is worth a fortune - Rara avis!
Without seeing the mark or an image to go by, I do know that three W letters was the mark used by White, Wile & Warner (mostly on Rings, Manufacturing Jewelers, Buffalo, NY, USA) - ca 1910 - 1930
